Happy Fourth of July! I've had some downtime this weekend so I can finally write a substantial blog update :) Summer started a little different than previous years having our niece and nephew stay with us during summer school, but we are thankful for the time we got to spend with them!
Highlights/updates from June:
- As previously mentioned, Jay and Nevaeh hung out with us during the week for the first month of summer! Although it was an adjustment from being a house with no kids to a house with two kids during the week (I work from home remember!), we started getting into the flow of things pretty quickly. We typically have them over the weekend, which puts us as the aunt and uncle who don't have rules and they can stay up late. It was a different story during the week with bedtimes and schedules and sit-down meals :)
- With that said, our social life slowed down quite a bit in June - which is good for us! Community Group doesn't meet in the summer, many friends are traveling, etc. If there is anything I've learned so far this summer, it's that I'm becoming okay with not committing to things too quickly. I've used "maybe" or "no" more than I've said YES!
- We hired someone to help reconstruct our backyard/make it enjoyable to be out there/level things out. It's coming along, but as all things, it's been a process. I don't have any updated pictures, but the stone looks so nice out there now. Home ownership has been one of the hardest (financially of course) and best (it's ours!) experience. It's really encouraged Heath and I to over-communicate because once you make a home decision, sometimes there is NO going back. It's important to the both of us that it's mutual and not a "whatever you want" decision.
- Speaking of home stuff, Heath (my handy man) has since started on reframing the french doors from the dining room to separate the living room and the back room. Needless to say many of our day dates have started with going to a lot of furniture stores for ideas and pricing for when we are ready to invest in items to actually put in the back room. (We have used it for storage since we moved in a year ago!)
- June was also a month of birthdays - my precious grandma celebrated 85 years (but I swear she said she was 85 last year so I'm still confused), both our little brother and sister turned 21 (we still can't believe it) and Heath finally joined me in the Almost 30 (29) club.
- And last but not least, we had the honor of taking Grapevine Colleyville WyldLife to Camp Buckner for the first time ever!! It was fun, it was hot, it was tiring, it was loud and it was SO rewarding. Relational ministry has such a long-term impact and I hope all of our middle school friends know how much Jesus loves them by how we, as WyldLife leaders, treat them.
Enjoy some pictures!
