Update #4: Performance 1st Basketball

I can finally write about Heath’s new adventure!  This has been in the works for the last few months, and I could not be more proud to tell everyone about Performance 1st Basketball.  Heath started P1B to train athletes to develop new basketball techniques as well as sharpen their current skills.  He is passionate about basketball and youth, so what better way to put these two together?

P1B offers individual, group and team training, where instruction is tailored to what an individual or group needs.  Heath will provide an assessment to learn what areas need improvement and evaluate solutions to create a focused training program.

The first step to starting a business such as this is to build clientele.  Heath has been working hard researching coach’s names and finding schools within the area.  Since this is a new area for him, he somewhat has to start all over in making basketball connections and networking with coaches.  Most of his contacts remain in Oklahoma, but Heath has never looked at this as a challenge – only an opportunity to increase his network.

P1B is operating out of Larry North Fitness, formally known as Solana Club, in Westlake.  Heath has some meetings coming up to promote P1B so I’m excited for him to talk about what he loves most and why he wants to do it.

Side story: Heath has always enjoyed working with kids.  His college basketball coach always assigned him to the younger kids during basketball camps because he’s the only one who could handle them.  Maybe because Heath is still a kid himself!  He has a high tolerance for kids and can entertain them all day long.  I’ve taken note of this when he is with my niece and nephew.  Heath has been involved in various basketball clinics through his overseas travel with Athletes in Action, and his two-month stint in North Carolina.

Anyways, we went to a friend’s birthday dinner last May and sat next to someone that we hadn’t met yet.  She expressed she felt this strong feeling to tell Heath – something like a flash vision she had when we first sat down.  Don’t forget that we’ve never met this girl in our life until this night, so she knew nothing about Heath’s basketball journey.  She mentioned that God gave her this vision to tell him that night.  She asked Heath if he was involved in sports and if he liked working with kids, to which he replied “yes” to both.

She then began to tell Heath that he would be working with kids one day with basketball as a way to minister Christ to them.  No lie, I had goose bumps when she was talking.  This girl knew nothing about Heath and she felt compelled to tell him this.  It’s one of those weird stories where “you just had to be there” to understand the experience.

Almost a year later, God’s work for Heath is unfolding.  Heath hopes to build relationships with the youth, and I pray that his faith shines through the way he trains them.  I pray that Heath not only becomes a trainer to the students, but a mentor for years to come.

P1B is accepting sponsorships for its program as a way to provide sessions for youth that may not be able to afford it.  Heath never wants to have to turn anyone away because money is an issue, but he also realizes financial support is needed to be able to successfully maintain the training program.  Click here to see how you can support Heath and P1B for its start-up year.

People may not remember what you tell them, but they’ll remember how you make them feel.  For a man of few words, Heath has a great opportunity to impact the youth through his actions and basketball training.  I’m a proud wife.
