Eating Our Way through Nashville

I’ve had the opportunity to travel to many places in both of my jobs so far post-college (I’m at my second one currently) – some conferences, some fellowship meetings and some regional events. The best thing is that they bump up to the weekend most of the time, so I extend my stays. Aside from my trips to Orlando, I’ve always had friends or family around the area I was at for work so I enjoyed my visits with them. Out of ALL my work trips (and I’ve been on plenty!), Heath has never came with me. Due to basketball, being out of the country, more basketball and now his job, there has never been a good time for him to get away. Until last week…

Heath came with me to Nashville! I was there for a marketing conference Wednesday evening through Friday afternoon and we extended the trip through the weekend. I know a lot of people think, “What is he doing while you’re at the conference?” and the great thing is Heath loves doing NOTHING. He loves being alone and relaxing and not having to do anything – must be a guy thing :) He slept in a lot, which was well deserved, and he also spent a few hours at the downtown YMCA playing pick-up basketball. Yes, he is the crazy one in this relationship who enjoys working out even while on “vacation.” Okay, let’s be real, he is the only one who works out at all in this relationship.

Anyways, I’m glad he got to come with me as the last time we were in Nashville, we got engaged! We did all the country, tourist stuff last time so this time we really wanted to be “like locals” (aside from my fan girl moment at The Bluebird Café – hi ABC Nashville lovers!). We did our best to visit all the districts within Nashville, we went to a weekend craft fair at Centennial Park, we ventured to a small, local Mexican restaurant for the best shrimp ceviche I’ve ever had in my life and, the best part, we had dinner at the same place we celebrated our engagement almost 2.5 years ago!

We had a lot of fun, but we decided our next trip has to be somewhere with a beach so we don’t feel like we have to constantly be doing something to enjoy the whole trip. I mean, laying out by the ocean constitutes doing something without even having to move – my kind of (cheap) fun.

Enjoy our pictures! We literally ate our way through Nashville, gained lots of lbs and are now Uber and Lyft elites.
Took Uber to the airport
Omni Nashville
Hotel restaurant - Bar Lines. Played live music every night (like every other place in Nashville!)
Opening Reception
2.5 years ago & now - Dinner at Tin Angel
The marketing conference was in the Country Music Hall of Fame - great view
In our hotel
We met up with the president of my company and he took us to a local spot called Flip Side. This is what I had for dinner - tater tot nachos!!! This started my binge eating for the week.
They bread thin chicken and have different toppings in their menu. Heath had one with jambalaya and a fried egg.
Waited in line for some Nashville's Hattie B's - yummy fried chicken!
We got in line at 11:49 AM and were finally eating around 12:50 PM.
Our cheap rental for the weekend. Named him Sonic the Hedgehog.
Walked around midtown with some shakes.
So cool! I tried to get us tickets for a show but they sold out in 10 minutes.
We switched hotels to Brentwood, a suburb about 15 mins outside of Nashville.
Drove to Downtown Franklin - super cute area!
Reminds me of Grapevine Main St.
Dinner at Firebirds
Finally having something green...
Hot husband :)

Reminded us so much of this Mexican restaurant in our college town!
So spicy. So good.
Craft Fair
The Parthenon
Walked around the Gulch and this coffee place was giving out free ice cream :)
Headed to dinner & a night on Broadway... which lasted only until 1030 PM because I was falling asleep!
We bought tickets to this Music City Spirits & Cocktail Festivals party (on Groupon), but we showed up and it was cancelled! No one even contacted me. So we ended up going for sushi across the street at Koi.
At the airport headed back to DFW - Swollen faces from SO much sleep and SO much food.

Until next time,
